10:30 AM Cornerstone Laying Ceremony - Iowa City

July 23, 2008

Brethren,

The Cornerstone Laying Ceremony for the Russell and Ann Gerdin American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Iowa City will be held in Iowa City on Saturday, August 2, 2008.    The ceremony will begin at 10:30 AM at 730 Hawkins Street, the site of Hope Lodge.  (This is right next to Carver Hawkeye Arena.)  All Iowa Masons, their ladies, and friends are invited and encouraged to attend.  Please plan to attend this very important Cornerstone Laying Ceremony.  It will be a great opportunity to show publicly the support that Iowa Masons have for this wonderful facility, which will provide free housing and support for cancer patients undergoing outpatient treatment at the several cancer treatment centers in Iowa City.

If you are a Knight Templar, please wear your uniform and join in the escort for the ceremony.  I join Right Eminent Sir Knight David Dryer, Grand Commander, in soliciting a large turnout of Sir Knights for this event.  The uniformed Sir Knights acting as escort make the ceremony much more impressive.  I thank you all in advance for your support for this ceremony.

As you are aware, the delegates voted overwhelmingly at Grand Lodge in Waterloo last September to support this facility with a three-year fund raising effort.  The financial support to date has been outstanding and heart warming.  Significant donations have been received from individual Iowa Masons, from Iowa Lodges, and even from out-of-state Masons.   During the ceremony, a check presentation will be made to the American Cancer Society representing the initial stage of fundraising.  I was privileged to tour the building last week.  It is still under construction, but on track for opening in early September.  It is a most impressive and beautiful facility.  You should all be proud of your part in supporting its construction.

Grand Lodge will be opened at 9:00 AM at Iowa City Lodge No. 4, 312 East College Street, with a practice session for the procession immediately following the opening of Grand Lodge.  Since parking at Iowa City Lodge is rather limited, I ask that only those directly participating in the ceremony attend the opening of Grand Lodge.  This would include Grand Commandery representatives and those members of Iowa City Lodge No. 4 who will be bearers of the several items included in the ceremony.  All others should gather at the Hope Lodge site for the ceremony.

I look forward to seeing all of you in Iowa City on August 2, 2008.

Fraternally,

Donald E. Mosier
Grand Master of Masons in Iowa
